When it comes to top notch French cuisine in Hong Kong, names such as Caprice, Spoon, Pierre, or L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon often come to mind. Ever heard of One-Thirty One? If you ask me, I would say this hidden gem beats all of the above! The restaurant is in a remodelled village house that is nestled in the bay of Three Fathoms Cove. It overlooks the clear water of Sai Kung, which reminds you of the tranquil European countryside on a sunny afternoon. It is the perfect spot for a long weekend lunch or a romantic dinner. They offer two prix fixe menus that change on a daily basis. The six-course dinner (HK$1,200) is available six nights a week and serves about 12 persons a night, while the four-course lunch (HK$600) is only available on weekends. Nevertheless, they can also accommodate any special dietary needs. Most of the ingredients come from the organic farm next door. Chef Gary would personally go to each and every one of the tables and introduce each dish that is beautifully presented in front of you. Not only is the food delicious, but the presentation is amazing. Each dish has its own story behind it. I almost felt guilty eating it. Admittedly, the restaurant is a bit out of the way and pricey, but the food and ambience made it worth while.
You might have to book well in advance due to limited seating, and most weekends are booked for private functions.
